Villari’s of Newington is a full time, professional Martial Arts school with 20 years of service to Newington, Rocky Hill, & Wethersfield. We specialize in separate classes for all age groups and ability levels with an emphasis on self defense and character development through self discipline, respect and self control.

Our Mission: To help every individual we teach reach their personal goals, realize their full potential, and achieve Black Belt excellence.

Villari’s teaches Shaolin Kempo Karate. We understand that effective Self Defense is as much a matter of confidence as physical technique. That’s why we use positive reinforcement techniques and goal setting to help our students develop a strong self-image as they realize their physical capabilities. People who exude strength are rarely victims; but, should an assault occur, they have the knowledge and the strength to react effectively.

Grandmaster Villari has accomplished much with a minimum of publicity. 10,000 Black Belts and 15 million students after its conception, Villari’s Martial Arts Centers are now a far cry from the days when Fred Villari taught two students at seven in the morning in a walk-up studio in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Grandmaster Villari realized that the ultimate in self-defense lay not in one way or style of fighting. By combining the “Four Ways of Fighting.” he devised and developed ways to integrate diverse methods of fighting into one, eliminating weaknesses and vulnerabilities. This is the central theory and method behind Villari’s art of Shaolin Kempo Karate.

The backbone of the Villari’s style is the Shaolin system since he felt it was the best for promoting overall good health, wisdom and longevity. This system is well balanced, incorporating mind, body and spirit into one.

This method has spread throughout the world as more than 500 schools have been opened that teach his method

We have enjoyed our time at Villari's. We appreciate the sense of community and enjoy the family events. The instructors are great with young children. It is a structured, fun environment. It has been a positive outlet for our son and a good experience overall.

My daughter started karate at vilaris when she was almost 5. We could see considerable difference in her confidence and ability to express herself in a group. The three rules that the program emphasizes on , are pretty much inclusive of all the dos and don'ts of good behavior. The masters are energetic and friendly but also have good control over the group.

My son was having some difficulties with attentiveness in kindergarten, and frankly, I wanted to have something for both of us to do to stay fit as well. I’ve both read and heard enough about the benefits of martial arts training to encourage better self-monitoring and general behavior with younger kids, so I thought I’d give it a try. In the spring of 2015, I signed my then-5 year old son and myself up for a 4 or 6 week trial at Villari’s Martial Arts in Newington, and it turned out to be a great decision.

Not only did my son’s teacher see a noticeable shift in his behavior over the weeks that followed, but my wife and I also noticed the lessons he learned in the studio affected his behavior at home, too. Sure, progress was slow and steady, but it was encouraging to see him building that forward momentum and growing to understand how he could be more respectful to others, demonstrate better self-control during stressful or frustrating situations, or be more self-disciplined about chores at home and tasks at school. We’ve also noticed he just seems to be a little stronger and doesn’t get tired out as easily – good for his little growing mind and body! Needless to say, it was an easy decision to start our little spitfire of a 4 year old last month, as Master Gray, Mr. Gagnon, and the rest of the instructors do an excellent job of providing a healthy, constructive, and safe environment for our kids to learn, grow, and have fun. We also really love that they also have a variety of community building events such as Laser Tag Nights, Parents’ Night Out, and other events for the kids (and adults).

And for whatever it’s worth, I have to say I’ve really grown to enjoy going to class each week. It’s a great opportunity to mental “clean the slate” and focus on something other than the stressors of the work day, and it’s gotten me into much better shape than I was in before I started about 10 months ago. If you’re thinking it over, definitely give Villari’s at Newington a try!
